ABATE Awards Banquet
February 20th 2010
The Awards Banquet is
kind of a misnomer for the days event. There is a Safety Luncheon followed
by the Awards Banquet in the evening and music well into the night. The
Luncheon recognizes the efforts of the Safety Division. These are the people
who teach the ABATE Rider Classes for the DOE. In several cases it is 25
years of service to the community. There are other awards given for
outstanding abilities, the Bent Kicker and Broken Spoke Awards are a few
examples.
The Awards Banquet is more for the Officers and their Regions and Counties.
There are 14 Regions and 92 Counties all hoping for some recognition. Many
times a Region or County excelled in one area only, giving them mention in
one of the categories (Membership Growth, Donations or Active Membership)
based on the population in their County or Region (Small, Medium or Large
Population). There are also awards for Donations to the State Charity,
Outstanding Service to ABATE and recognition for contributions to the ABATE
Magazine. It isn't much of a surprise when a County does exceedingly well
that their Region gains a first in the same category. Congratulations to
everyone who attended or were able to receive a plaque for their service.
Once all of the trophies were handed out it was time for us to do what were
are so well known for... Party! To the sounds of Next Level they did so late
into the evening (early morning). Good thing we all have rooms at the
Clarion. So, if you have the opportunity to next year -make a point of doing
so, it might be a surprise to you to discover who gets which awards!
